Abstract
The angular precessions of the lowest and states in have been measured employing the transient field method. The nuclei, Coulomb-excited by a 180 MeV beam, traversed the Gd foil with velocities between 5 and 2 (=c/137). We have obtained the values g)=0.21(2) and g)=0.15(2), which are consistent with the predictions of the particle-core weak-coupling model. The field has been calibrated with the Chalk River parametrization, which has been checked using the known g factors of the lowest states in , , , and as probes.
