Abstract

The ratio of cross sections for the E1 and E2 capture amplitudes in the reaction C12(α, γ)O16 has been determined from γ-ray angular distributions obtained at Ec.m.=1.72.8 MeV. The results favor a nonnegligible contribution of the E2 amplitude to the reaction rate at stellar energies.
