Abstract

In delta-hole calculations of pion-nucleus reactions, medium corrections have so far only been applied to the resonant P33 πN interaction. In view of the difficulties encountered below resonance, we reexamine the effects of Fermi motion, binding and Pauli blocking on the nonresonant πN partial waves. We find small corrections for pion energies between 50 and 300 MeV and conclude that the delta-hole model can be used in its present form there. Our treatment of the Pauli corrections is contrasted with other related work.
