Abstract

A systematic perturbation calculation of the nuclear mass- and charge-density distributions of 16O and 40Ca is presented using a harmonic-oscillator basis. The calculation is carried out, with the original Sussex matrix elements for the nuclear interaction and including the Coulomb interaction, to third order in perturbation theory. The relative importance of various contributions from the pure and mixed (nuclear and Coulomb) graphs is discussed order by order.
