Abstract

Backbending in even-even nuclei is fitted by mixing a ground state, β, or γ band described by the variable moment of inertia formula with a superband characterized by a constant moment of inertia and applying the standard band coupling formalism or constant interband interaction. Very accurate results are obtained in all cases. The interband interaction remains small, and its oscillatory behavior is well reproduced. The predictive power of the model is emphasized.
