Abstract

Measurements of σR have been performed at 30 and 83 MeV/nucleon incident energy for 15 heavy-ion systems using the attenuation method. The data are compared with predictions of microscopic calculations and a semi-empirical formula is given for σR.

To that end, a comprehensive database has been assembled from the Experimental Nuclear Reaction Data (EXFOR), Durham High Energy Physics Data (HepDATA) Project, and the Japan Charged-Particle Nuclear Reaction Data Group (JCPRG) databases. There is an abundance of elastic [56–70], reaction [56,71–129], and total cross section [56,58,69,70,130–146] data; therefore, these data have been used for validation of the model. An accurate representation of the available elastic differential cross section data [142,147–283] is also presented; however, there is a paucity of nucleus-nucleus differential cross section data for energies greater than a few hundred MeV/n.

Due to its ability to reproduce the total reaction cross sections for nucleus + nucleus reaction over a wide energy range, the Hybrid Kurotama model has been officially incorporated into PHITS [10] from version 2.52. In Fig. 1, a comparison of the calculated total reaction cross sections for 12C + 12C using the original BS model, the Hybrid Kurotama model, and the Tripathi parameterization are shown together with experimental data Refs. [7,14–18]. In Fig. 1, it can be seen that the first version of the “Hybrid Kurotama” can very precisely reproduce the empirical energy dependence of σR over a wide energy region.
