Abstract

A theory of the (p, π) reaction is presented within the framework of the isobar-doorway model. The theory makes formal contact with both one-nucleon and two-nucleon models of the reaction mechanism, but avoids many of the consistency problems or approximations made in practical calculations within the latter two models. The present calculations for 12C(p̄, π+)13Cg.s at 200 MeV, which include the main features of the theory except non-local delta propagation, are presented for testing model sensitivities and checking approximations, as well as comparison to data.
