Abstract

The branching ratio for the EC decay of 7Be to 7Li has been measured by counting the total number of neutrons produced in the 7Li(p, n)7Be reaction and subsequently counting the yield of 478 keV γ-rays from the activated targets. Six targets were measured with particular attention given to monitoring migration or loss of 7Be during and after activation. The branching ratio for the EC decay of 51Cr to 51V (320 keV γ-ray) was also measured using the same technique. The resulting branching ratios to the first excited states in 7Li and 51V are (10.61 ± 0.17)% and (10.30 ± 0.19)% respectively.
