Abstract

We consider the effects of truncating the polynomial series used to obtain the deuteron D- to S-state ratio from the angular extrapolation ofσT22 in d + p elastic scattering. A model incorporating the cos θ-dependence of the Coulomb, neutron-exchange, nucleon rescattering, and pionic amplitudes is used to estimate the truncation correction. This correction may be enhanced by Coulomb effects, which can be simply removed from the extrapolation procedure.
