Abstract

The reaction F19(p, α0)O16 was used to study a parity and isospin forbidden α transition. The 1+, 1 state in Ne20 (Ex=13.482 MeV, Γ=6 keV) was populated by capture of transversally polarized protons. Placing the quantization axis in the reaction plane, the "irregular" analyzying power APNC was determined. No relevant deviation from zero was observed within a statistical accuracy of ΔAPNC=1.1×103. An upper limit for the irregular width of the 1+ level ΓαPNC<6×106 eV was determined.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS F19(p, α0)O16, measured parity nonconserving analyzing power, deduced irregular α0 decay width of Ne20 (1+, 1) state at Ex=13.482 MeV.
