Diffractive angular distribution for O16(π+, π)Ne16(g.s.)

Abstract

The 164-MeV angular distribution for the non-analog double charge exchange reaction O16(π+, π)Ne16(g.s.) has been measured and is found to be basically diffractive. This is contrasted with the previously measured analog distribution for O18(π+, π)Ne18 (double isobaric analog) which is not diffractive.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS O16(π+, π)Ne16(g.s.); Eπ=164 MeV, θ=0°50°; measured σ(θ), non-analog transition, eikonal fit to angular distribution.
