Abstract

Fusion cross sections for 16O + 13C have been measured by the total γ-ray yield method over the c.m. energy interval 4.6–9.1 MeV. The cross sections are observed to be enhanced with respect to the 16O + 12C system for more than the increase in the nuclear radius suggests. The enhancement is attributed to the attractive action of the loosely bound neutron of the 13C nucleus.
