Abstract
A simple semiclassical picture of the rotating spatial density distribution for spin-aligned high- quasiparticles emerges from the cranking model. Evidence for the physical relevance of this picture can be sought in the signature splitting of rotational bands in -soft nuclei. The cerium region is a suitable testing ground, and model calculations are presented for bands which might be observed experimentally.
