Abstract

Decay schemes of 45.3-d Pu237 and 1.55×105 yr Np236 have been investigated by measuring their γ ray and conversion electron spectra with a 5-cm2×1-cm Ge detector and a cooled Si(Li) spectrometer, respectively. Intensities of γ rays, x rays, and conversion electrons have been determined and these have been used to derive logft values for EC and β transitions. In addition to confirming previously known level schemes in Np237 and U236, the energies of the 4 + →2 + and 6 + →4 + transitions in the Pu236 ground state band have been determined. Relative intensities of x rays in the decay of Np235 have also been measured.

RADIOACTIVITY Pu237 [from U235(α, 2n)], Np235 [from U235(d, 2n)], Np236 [from U23s(d, 4n)]; measured Eγ, Iγ, Ece, Ice. Np237, U236, Pu236 deduced levels, logft (EC), logft (β), γ multipolarity, I, π. Mass-separated Pu237. Cooled Si(Li) electron spectrometer.
