Abstract

Using a model based on tetrahedral symmetry a Jπ=3 level is predicted to exist at 9.90 ± 0.07 MeV in the nucleus O16. The new level is expected to be quite narrow with Γ1 keV and, because of its near degeneracy with a well known 2+ level, has presumably escaped detection. A brief discussion of the model predictions and the available experimental evidence for such a level is given. A more definitive experiment is suggested.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE O16; calculated levels E, J, π. Doublet predicted at 9.85-MeV excitation.
