C12(π, π) to giant dipole resonance region

Abstract

Strong forward-angle excitation of a group of states at 20-28 MeV in C12(π, π) is dominated by the isovector giant dipole resonance but seems to indicate, in addition, substantial spin-flip strength.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12(π±, π±), Tπ=180 MeV, measured σ(Eπ, θ), evidence for GDR and spin-flip giant resonance excitation.
