A search for incomplete fusion from the shapes of residue energy spectra

Abstract

It is shown that information on the reaction mechanism of heavy ion reactions can be gained by inspecting the shape of residue energy spectra. The method is used with data from the 20Ne + 12C reaction at E(20Ne) = 160 MeV. For this case all residue energy spectra are well described by compound nucleus evaporation.
