Abstract

We define a nuclear interaction radius based on the optical model phase shifts and use it to calculate the transparency of the target nuclei in proton induced reactions. The use of this interaction radius leads to a reasonable value of the transparency. We show that the transparency is not negligibly small at energies where the reaction cross section reaches its maximum.
