Abstract

Inelastic scattering of He3 particles at 110-140 MeV from Zr90,92, Sn116,118,120, Sm114, and Pb208 nuclei exhibits the presence of a new giant resonance at Ex118A13 MeV with a width of about 7 MeV. The angular distributions are consistent with those for L=3 transfer and octupole energy-weighted sum-rule fractions of 47-95% are exhausted for the resonance.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Zr90,92, Sn116,118,120, Sm144, Pb208 He3, He3), E=110140 MeV. Measured σ(θ,E). Deduced giant octupole resonance, Ex, β3, EWSR. Enriched target.
