Abstract

The multiplicity ${\bar{M}}_{S}$ of the statistical $γ$ rays following several ( ${}^{16}O$ , $xn$ ) reactions has been measured. A correlation between the total $γ$ multiplicity ${\bar{M}}_{T}$ and ${\bar{M}}_{S}$ was found. This effect is attributed to an increase in the mean excitation energy above the yrast line with increasing angular momentum input.
