Abstract
The contribution of the heavy particle stripping mechanism to the elastic scattering of on is calculated using a modified distorted-wave Born approximation approach. The resulting amplitude is combined with a conventional optical potential amplitude and the calculated cross sections are compared with measurements at MeV. It is found that the heavy particle stripping mechanism produces most of the observed cross sections backward of and that it has very little effect on forward cross sections.
