Abstract

Pion inelastic scattering calculations, exciting the stretched state configurations of C12, have been performed in the context of the impulse approximation, but with excited states generated from the recoil corrected continuum shell model. The calculation, therefore, allows for the subsequent decay of excited states via particle emission. The unbound nature of these states is shown to greatly effect their structure and isospin mixing, and therefore the pion cross sections. The calculated cross sections are consistent with observed σπ+, σπ differences.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Pion scatteirng, C12(π,π) C12(4), continuum shell model, isospin mixing.
