Abstract

The exit channels for elastic and alpha particles have been detected for N14 bombardment on C12 over the energy range Elab=4560.0 MeV. Extensive statistical analyses of the data show evidence for nonstatistical structure (or "resonances"). Some of these structures are correlated in the two exit channels, especially one prominent structure at Ec.m=22.4 MeV. The reaction mechanism is discussed, and all the evidence is consistent with a quasimolecular resonance formed by the N14 and C12 entrance channel nuclei.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12(N14, N14), (N14, C12), (N14,α), E=45.060.0 MeV; measured σ(E) at θlab=8° for α and σ(E) at θlab=15°,30° for N14, C12; statistical and Hauser-Feshbach analysis. Natural target. Resolution 130 keV for α, 400-700 keV for N14, C12. Discussion of reaction mechanism.
