Abstract

The p 3He elastic backward scattering cross sections have been measured in the laboratory kinetic energy range 700 ⩽ Tp ⩽ 1700 MeV for backscattered proton angle 160° < θp < 180° in the c.m. A change in the slope of the cross sections and a bump in the 180° excitation function are observed around Tp = 1300 MeV. These features are explained are explained as due to baryonic excitation in intermediate states.
