Abstract

The pentaneutron (5n) binding properties are studied within a 5h̷ω model space. The results, based on the Sussex interaction, indicate that 5n is unbound by about 10 MeV. The 5n ground state has the assignment (Jπ,T)=(32,52). The model also suggests the lowest (32,52) state in 5He will occur at about 40 MeV excitation energy.
