Abstract

An exact method to obtain the wave function of the neutron-deuteron system at energies below the breakup threshold is presented. The scattering length and the effective range are calculated in the case of three local potentials. The quantity k cotδ as a function of energy is given for one of these interactions. As for the triton case, realistic potentials are unable to cope completely with experimental data.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS d(n,n)d, E=0 MeV (cold neutrons); calculated scattering length and effective range; wave function also obtained.
