Results from a study of the ${}_{}{}^9{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Be}$ ($t$,$\alpha$) reaction with 17-MeV polarized tritons, as well as an analysis of earlier results, lead to an assignment of $J^{\pi }=4^{+}$ for ${}_{}{}^8{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Li}$* (6.53).

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ${}_{}{}^9{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Be}$ ($t$,$\alpha$), $E(\mathrm{pol}.\mathrm{})=17\mathrm{}$ MeV, measured $\sigma \left(\theta \right)$, $A_y$ for $\alpha$ group to ${}_{}{}^8{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Li}$*(6.53). Analysis by CCBA leads to $J^{\pi }$.
