Abstract
The real and the imaginary parts of the nucleus-nucleus interaction potential have been calculated using a suitable complex effective interaction, derived from the Skyrme interaction. It is shown that the transition from light to heavy ions can be predicted on the basis of the saturating property of the Skyrme effective interaction—a free two-body complex interaction does not predict such a transition.
