Abstract

Elastic scattering angular distributions have been measured for the systems B10 + O16 at EL=33.7, 41.6, and 49.5 MeV and B11 + O16 at EL=41.6 and 49.5 MeV. The B10 and B11 data are oscillatory and similar for angles less than 50° c.m. For angles greater than 50° c.m., the oscillations in the B10 data are damped and the data stop decreasing with increasing angle. Elastic scattering angular distributions have been calculated for B10,11 + O16 with the coupling to the ground-state quadrupole moment included explicitly. Potentials which describe the scattering are extracted with the double folding model. It is found that the quadrupole coupling is necessary to explain the difference in B10 and B11 scattering from O16.
