Determination of the Electric Quadrupole Moment of Li7 by Coulomb Scattering of an Aligned Li7 Ions

Abstract

The electric quadrupole moment of Li7 was determined by Coulomb scattering of aligned Li7 ions to be Q=(34±6)e mb. This compares favorably with the value Q=(41±6)e mb determined by atomic-beam spectroscopy.
