Abstract

The giant monopole resonance in the region of deformed nuclei has been investigated by inelastic scattering of 108.5 MeV He3 at very small scattering angles. Evidence is reported for coupling between the giant monopole and giant quadrupole vibrations, based both on energy shift and transition strength.
