Abstract

The ATMS method is outlined with its applications to the triton, the α -particle and molecules of the type ( $^{4} He)_{m} (^{3} He)_{n}$ . The triton and α-particle can be understood with the realistic nuclear force. In particular, most of the energy levels of the α-particle are successfully reproduced with two-body and three-body nuclear forces.

Solutions of the Yakubovsky equations for four-body model systems

The four-particle Yakubovsky equation has been solved exactly in momentum space for various model forces. These are spin-independent and spin-dependent two-body potentials including the 3³S₁−³D₁ tensor force. The binding energy of −31.36 MeV for the MT-V potential acting in all partial waves agrees perfectly with previous results from Green-function Monte Carlo, coupled cluster expansion, CRCGBV and ATMS calculations.
Variational calculations of resonant states in <sup>4</sup>He

We present a modified R-matrix method which allows microscopic calculations of nucleon-nucleus scattering at low energies. This method may be applied in conjunction with any of the commonly used methods for the ground states of few-body systems, i.e. the Green function Monte Carlo, Faddeev and variational techniques. We then report results of variational calculations of low-energy tp scattering in the region of 0⁺, 0⁻ and 2⁻ resonances in ⁴He. The energies and widths of these resonances are calculated using realistic two- and three-nucleon interactions; but, the Coulomb interaction is neglected. The three-nucleon interaction is found to have a much smaller effect on the energies of the resonances than on the ground-state energy.
Recent results from (e,e′X) reactions on <sup>4</sup>He

Coincidence cross sections for the ⁴He(e,e'p), ⁴He(e,e'd)²H and ⁴He(e,e't)¹H reaction have been measured under various kinematical conditions. In the impulse approximation they can be related to either the single-nucleon or the multi-nucleon momentum density distribution. The data are compared to microscopic calculations of the reaction cross section that include final-state interaction effects and meson exchange currents.

The problems of this article are performed with the cooperation of the members of our laboratory and our old results were published in Prog. Theor. Phys. Suppl. no. 56 (1974). In this article I summarize many results obtained by the members of my laboratory whose contributions are listed as follows: Prof.Y. Akaishi contributed to sect. 2 and most of the other sections, Mr.T. Katayama to the electromagnetic form factor in sect. 4, Mr.S. Nakaichi to sect. 3, Dr.M. Sakai to the results of the a -particle with two-body forces, and Mr.T. Kasahara and Mr.M. Sato to the effects of the three-body force, respectively.
