Abstract

Differential and total cross sections for (γ,π) reactions in nuclear matter are calculated using the single particle γNπ amplitudes recently proposed for nuclear calculations. The effect of the Pauli principle on the pion spectrum and angular distribution is examined. Optical potentials for the nucleons and pions are introduced to investigate the influence of the nuclear medium on photopion production. The total photoabsorption cross section is computed and compared with recent data on lithium and beryllium.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Calculated σ(Eπ,θπ) for (γ,π) in nuclear matter. Applied to total photoabsorption data from 140 to 340 MeV in Li and Be.
