Abstract

Using the short pulses of a linac a measurement has been performed of partial μ-capture rates in O16 leading to the O and 1 bound excited states of N16. The experimental O+O transition rate supports the assumption of a large mesonic exchange effect in the time part of the weak axial current.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Muon capture O16(μ,ν)N16. Measured Iγ, Ge(Li) detector. Deduced partial capture rates. Mesonic exchange correction to capture rate calculations.
