Abstract

Analyzing powers Ay for reactions leading to several members of the mass-six supermultiplet have been measured via the t+9Be6Li + 6He, 6Li + 6He reactions at 17 MeV triton energy. In contrast to the previously measured differential cross sections, which show symmetry about 90° for both the S = 1 and S = 0 channels, Ay is consistent with being antisymmetric about 90° for the S = 0 channel and is approximately symmetric for the S = 1 channel. An antisymmetric result for the S = 0 isospin-multiplet channel could be understood by invoking isospin symmetry, in analogy to the well-known Barshay-Temmer theorem. The reaction leading to the S = 1 channel is discussed in terms of a direct reaction mechanism; however, the symmetry of Ay about 90° is not understood.
