Abstract

The elastic scattering cross section for neutrons on oxygen is calculated beginning with a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction. A soft interaction is employed so that a perturbation expansion is tractable. The results reinforce the conclusions derived from a previous calculation of the s-wave scattering phase shift. Namely, it is shown that ab initio calculations such as these can be carried out and that one may thereby gain an understanding of complex reactions between nuclei on a microscopic level.
