Abstract

Neutron capture γ-ray measurements following resonance capture have been performed upon enriched samples of Fe54 and Fe58, and upon a natural Fe (91.7% Fe56) sample. Twenty-eight γ rays were observed from two resonances of the Fe58(n, γ) reaction, and nineteen were incorporated into a level scheme for Fe59. Thirty-seven γ rays were observed from the 1.167-keV resonance of the Fe56(n, γ) reaction, and twenty-eight were incorporated into a level scheme for Fe57. Two γ rays were observed from four resonances of the Fe54(n, γ) reaction. The neutron separation energy for Fe59 was determined to be 6580.8 ± 1.0 keV.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Fe54,56(n, γ), E=150 keV, Fe58 (n, γ), E=0.111 keV; measured Eγ, Iγ. Fe55 deduced resonances. Fe57,59 deduced resonances, levels. Fe59 deduced neutron separation energy. Enriched targets.
