First observation of T> = 452 inner hole states in 207Pb

Abstract

The first four isobaric analog states in ²⁰⁷Pb, $T_{>} = 452$ , were found around E_x = 20 MeV with the reaction ²⁰⁸Pb(τ, α) ²⁰⁷Pb at 102 MeV incident energy. The excitation energies, widths and angular distributions were measured. Spectroscopic factors were deduced by DWBA analysis.

Evaluated nuclear structure and decay data for all nuclei within the A=207 mass chain are presented. The experimental data are evaluated and best values for level and gamma-ray energies, quantum numbers, lifetimes, gamma-ray intensities, and other nuclear properties are recommended. Inconsistencies and discrepancies that exist in the literature are noted. This work supersedes the earlier evaluation by M.J. Martin (1993Ma73), published in Nuclear Data Sheets 70, 315 (1993).
Neutron decay of deep-hole states populated by the 208Pb(3He,α)207Pb reaction at 102 MeV

Neutron decay of excited hole states populated by the ²⁰⁸Pb(³He,α) reaction at an energy of 102 MeV has been investigated. The α-particles were analysed in a magnetic spectrograph positioned at 1.4° and detected with a multi-wire drift chamber. Excitation energies in ²⁰⁷Pb up to 25 MeV were studied. An array of neutron detectors was positioned around the target at angles ranging from 68° to 209°. The neutron data were analysed in terms of decay into final states, using statistical-model calculations as a tool to extract non-statistical decay.

Coulomb energies and the shell model

Phenomenological shell-model Coulomb energy equations with coefficients varying as $A^{−13}$ are considered. The highly regular systematics of Coulomb displacement energies is presented and discussed. In a global fit with 22 adjustable parameters the equations reproduce 377 displacement energies with a standard deviation of 55 keV. The relations to other shell-model equations are discussed. The numerical values of the adjusted coefficients are related to the charge radius and deformation parameters of the liquid drop model. The calculation of total Coulomb energies for ground states is considered.

High-lying neutron hole strengths observed in pick-up reactions

Neutron-hole states in orbits well below the Fermi surface have been observed in a number of medium-heavy nuclei from A = 90 to 209 using one nucleon pick-up reactions. The excitation energies, angular distributions of such broad and enhanced structures will be discussed. The fragmentation of the neutron-hole strengths as well as the spreading of such simple mode of excitations into more complex states are compared to recent calculations within the quasiparticle-phonon or the single particle-vibration coupling nuclear models. We report on recent measurements of J for inner-hole states in ⁸⁹Zr and ^{115, 119}Sn using the analyzing power of the $(p -1, d) and (d -2, t)$ reactions. Large enhancement of cross-sections are observed at high excitation energy in the study of the (p, t) reactions on Zr, Cd, Sn, Te and Sm isotopes. The systematic features of such high-lying excitation are related to the ones observed in one neutron pick-up experiments. The origin of such concentration of two neutron-hole strengths in Cd and Sn isotopes will be discussed. Preliminary results obtained in the study of the $(α,^{6} He)$ reaction at 218 MeV incident energy on ⁹⁰Zr, ¹¹⁸ Sn and ²⁰⁸pb targets are presented and compared to the (p, t) results. Finally the properties of hole-analog states populated in neutron pick-up reactions (from ⁹⁰Zr to ²⁰⁸Pb) will be presented.
