Abstract

Differential cross sections for the (O18, O17) reaction on targets of Si28, Ca40,48, and Fe54 have been measured at E(O18)=50 MeV. The O17 nuclei were detected in both the ground state (52+) and the first excited state (0.87 MeV, 12+). The data were analyzed using full-recoil finite-range distorted-wave Born-approximation calculations. Spectroscopic factors were, with one exception, in good agreement with the products of spectroscopic factors obtained from light ion reactions. In particular, the ratio of spectroscopic factors for neutron pickup from O18, S(O18O17(0.87 MeV)S(O18O17(g.s.)), was found to be independent of the target. Thus these data are consistent with a one-step direct reaction interpretation of the transfer. However, some problems remain in connection with understanding the location of the grazing angle peaks in the angular distributions.
