Abstract

Evidence is presented for populating the 12+ and 14+ members of the excited C12 +C12 rotational band in Mg24 by the B10 +N14 entrance channel. Excitation functions of the B10(N14,α)Ne20 reaction close to 0° and 180° near the Coulomb barrier exhibit pronounced resonances and forward-backward cross-section asymmetries at the energies of these two C12 +C12 resonances.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS B10(N14,α), E=924 MeV; measured σ(E) close to 0° and 180°; deduced energies and widths of intermediate structures in Mg24.
