Abstract

The pion double-charge-exchange reaction O18(π+, π)Ne18 has been observed. A value of (dσdΩ)(0°)=1.78±0.30 μb/sr was obtained at a pion energy of 139 MeV for the ΔTz=2 isobaric analog transition from the ground state of oxygen-18 to the ground state of neon-18.
