Abstract

A survey of elastic scattering angular distributions from Si28 using beams of Be9, C12, N14, O16, and O18 has been carried out for energies near the Coulomb barrier. The projectile bombarding energies used were Be9(14, 17 MeV); C12(24, 27, 30 MeV); N14(27, 30, 33 MeV); O16(33, 36, 38 MeV) and O18(36 MeV). Optical model analyses using a previously proposed parameter set have been carried out in order to fit the data in a global manner. Although low energy data cannot completely define the optical model potential, it is interesting that the potential of Cramer et al., which they used to describe O16 +Si28 scattering in the energy range from 33-215 MeV, yields a reasonable description of all the angular distributions for all projectiles and energies presented here.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Si28(Be9, Be9), E=14 and 17 MeV; Si28(C12, C12) E=24, 27, and 30 MeV; Si28(N14, N14) E=27, 30, and 33 MeV; Si28(O16, O16) E=33, 36, and 38 MeV; and Si28(O18, O18) E=36 MeV, measured σ(θ) and performed global optical model analysis.
