Abstract

An excitation function has been measured for C12 + C12 mutually excited to both first excited states, using γ pairs detected in any two of four closely packed 12.5-cm × 12.5-cm NaI detectors. Both W¯(90)W¯(180) and W¯(90)+W¯(180) vary smoothly with bombarding energy, in disagreement with recent predictions of sharp resonant structure.

[NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12(C12,C4.44*12)C4.44*12, E=1015 MeV, γγ coin for θγγ=90 and 180, no sharp resonances observed.]
