Abstract
A variational method is used to calculate the -state triton binding energy using four phase equivalent -function interactions of the form . An average of the and interactions is used with a completely symmetric -state triton variational wave function. We find an -state binding energy for the triton of less than 1 MeV for the two hard-core potentials and 5-6 MeV for the two soft-core potentials. Comparison with Faddeev calculations is given.
