Abstract

From measurements of the excitation function of the 2H(3He, p)pt reaction the pt final state interaction into the 4He(0+) level at Ex = 20.1 MeV in 4He is extracted. It is shown that this part of the three particle reaction is purely compound and dominated by a Jπ = 32 resonance. Measurements of angular correlations confirm the spin asignment. The results are compared with similar ones for 5He. The observed 32 states can be understood by coupling a p32 nucleon to the first excited state of 4He in analogy to the ground states of the A = 5 system. It is shown that the interaction between a nucleon and the 4He(0+) is stronger than between a nucleon and a 4He in its ground state.
