Abstract
Differential cross sections of deuteron elastic scattering from and of the reaction have been measured at a deuteron bombarding energy of 18 MeV for transitions to 12 states in up to an excitation energy of 6.341 MeV. Absolute spectroscopic factors were extracted with the aid of distorted-wave-Born-approximation calculations. The results are compared with theoretical calculations and show a distinct preference for a weak-coupling model. Diagonal matrix elements of the effective neutron-neutron interaction were deduced from the data for the and configurations. A theoretical estimate of the errors involved is in qualitative agreement with the deviations observed between experiment and theory.
