Abstract

A microscopic parameter-free folding-type approach is studied to calculate the real alpha-nucleus optical potential in terms of realistic nuclear form factors and the free nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitudes. The model is applied to α-12C scattering (above 100 MeV) and is found to predict successfully the value and energy variation of the real potential. The usefulness of the model in discriminating between phenomenological potential ambiguities is also pointed out.
