Abstract

The 20-30 MeV excitation energy region of O16 was investigated by inelastic scattering of 45 MeV protons and 60 MeV α particles. Both E1 and E2 strengths are present, exhausting, respectively, about 50% and between 16 and 21% of the corresponding energy-weighted sum rule. Microscopic calculations also reproduce angular distributions fairly well.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS O16(p,p), Ep=45 MeV, O16(α,α), Eα=60 Mev, Ex=030 MeV; measured σ(Ex,θ); discuss giant resonances.
