Abstract

Excitation functions and angular distributions for the C12(α,Be8)Be8 reaction were measured for Eα=1733 MeV. Only broad structures were observed, except for a narrow resonance at Eα=22.30 MeV. Total and L - partial cross sections are deduced from the angular distributions. Below Eα=20 MeV no J=8 resonance was found. For higher energies an L=8 contribution appears, increases gradually, and becomes dominant at and above Eα=23 MeV. A tentative interpretation of the behavior of C12(α,Be8)Be8 partial cross sections is given in the framework of the Hauser-Feshbach formalism.
