Abstract

A study of highly excited states in Be8 and B10 has been conducted using the Be9(He3,α) and B11(He3,α) reactions at E(He3)=49.3 MeV and the Berkeley magnetic spectrometer. We observe three new states in Be8 at Ex=22.05, 22.63, and 22.98 MeV (±0.1 MeV) with Γc.m.<0.3 MeV. In B10 we confirm the previously known states B*10 (10.85, 11.52, 12.56) and report a new state B*10 (13.49) with Γc.m.=0.3 MeV, in addition to two broader states. Comparisons are made with the analog regions in Li8 and Be10.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Be9(He3,α), B11(He3,α), E=49.3 MeV; measured σ(θ). Γ, Be8, B10, deduced levels.
